Getting your jig head size right matters more than most people think.
It’s not just about length : body thickness, balance, and hook exposure all play a part.

Here’s a simple guide based on what consistently works.

Smaller profiles

• 120mm plastics fish best on 3/0–5/0 jig heads
• Ideal for lighter presentations and finesse situations

Mid-size plastics

• 150mm plastics pair cleanly with a 7/0
• Good balance of weight, hook exposure, and swim action

Large plastics

• 200mm plastics suit a 9/0
• A solid option for barra when stepping up in profile

Oversize plastics

• 220–240mm plastics are best rigged on 10/0
• Designed for thicker bodies and better hook-up rates on bigger fish

Magnum plastics

• 250–300mm plastics need a 12/0
• Built for serious fish, deep water, heavy current, and confident bites

If the plastic is thick through the belly, don’t be afraid to size up.
