Why the 7/0 1/4oz Took So Bloody Long.
If you’ve been waiting for the 7/0 1/4oz Combat Jig Head, you’ve probably wondered why it took me so bloody long to get them here.
Short answer? Because I’m pedantic 😂
Long answer, I trialled them. I tested them. I changed them. Then I tested them some more.
The original mould was actually pretty bloody close.
It had the hook size I wanted, the lighter 1/4oz weight and two plastic holds.
But when I started testing them across different plastics, I noticed something I wasn’t happy with.
After being used a few times out fishing, some plastics could start to slip.
Would they have been fine for plenty of people? Probably.
Was I happy enough to put the Pro Lates name on them?
Nope 😂
So back to the mould we went.
I added a third plastic hold.
That little change gave the plastic more to grab onto and helped keep it where it was supposed to be, particularly after it had already copped a bit of use.
Then came more testing. And more testing. And probably an unnecessary amount of testing 😂
Different plastics. Rigging them up. Fishing them. Pulling them apart. Checking how they were holding after use.
Basically annoying myself with them until there was nothing left that annoyed me.
And then, BOOM. Finally happy.
That was the version I was prepared to put into production.
Why did we want a 7/0 in 1/4oz anyway?
Because sometimes you still want that bigger hook without adding a heap of weight.
You might be fishing shallower water, wanting a slower presentation or using a bigger plastic that you don't necessarily want plummeting straight to the bottom.
That's where the 7/0 1/4oz fits into the Combat range.
Big hook. Light weight. Needle point.
And now three plastic holds because apparently two weren't good enough for me.
It took a little longer to get here than I originally planned. But I'd rather hold something back, change it and get it right than chuck it into production just because everyone is waiting for it.
The 7/0 1/4oz Combat Jig Heads are finally here.
Now go stick something.
